Three Warning Signs Your Disaster Recovery Plan Needs Work

Your business disaster recovery plan incorporates both physical responses and data backups. It’s a relatively general plan, but it covers most of the important things, right? Before you decide that you’re good to go, check out these three key warning signs that your disaster recovery plan needs work.

Your disaster recovery plan doesn’t allow for employees to return to work as soon as possible. Ideally, you want options that will allow for uninterrupted work no matter what’s going on around you. These include such options as an Uninterrupted Power Supply, which can keep your employees working even when your office is in the middle of a disaster.

Your plan doesn’t allow employees to work wherever they are. Even if employees can’t get into the office, often, they can continue working as usual. Hosted and cellular options for data storage can keep employees up and running no matter what’s going on in the office. This is particularly true for offices with employees in a variety of locations or where travel is common. The office itself might be shut down, but that’s no reason employees on the road can’t keep right on working. Cellular options also allow employees to work from home. Data cloud backup is one great way to accomplish this: the cloud remains constant and available even when the office network is down.

You haven’t tested it recently. Your backup plan is only as good as the way it functions in the event of an actual emergency. Any time you change something in your system, make sure you check it out to be sure that your critical data is still in hand when you need it most. Check it out under controlled circumstances, when you can make vital changes, not being blindsided by a real emergency.
